In Nantong, the average purchase price of fresh silkworm cocoon rises by 33 per cent to 1460 yuan per 50kg.

In Suqian, the maximum purchase price of fresh cocoon has exceeded 1550 yuan per 50kg. Current data shows that the purchase price of fresh cocoon whose silkworm spins silk on box frames is between 1400-1550 yuan while 1100 yuan for fresh cocoon whose silkworm spins silk on straws.

Jiangsu province is the leading cocoon production as well as demand area in China. According to data from local agricultural sectors, Jiangsu’s silkworm distribution volume rose by 10 per cent to reach 1.37 million boxes. Jiangsu’s cocoon output is expected to be almost same as or slightly higher than that of last spring.

Together with the Ministry of Agriculture, the National Development and Reform Commission and State Administration for Industry and Commerce distributed a circular on price policy of silkworm cocoon and purchase management last month. The circular predicted the purchase price this spring was 980 yuan per 50kg.

A industry insider from Jiangsu Soho Corporation said that current cocoon output increase hasn’t reversed the supply and demand relation. In addition, silk filature and silk fabric prices still moves at a high level, which supports the cocoon purchase price to ome extent.
