Not long ago, Hai’an County, Jiangsu Province spent nearly 10 million yuan in building a service platform for mulberry insect and silkworm disease treatment. The platform is to provide the farmers with diagnosis and treatment of insect pests and diseases; it is based on intelligent technology and has established a data model.
Hai’an sericulture farmers can search through internet and find the names, formal names of the insect pests, the type of damages, harm, control strategies and other information. The platform helps them master pest control techniques.

Now, there is 10333 hectare of mulberry area in Hai'an County, accounting for one-ninth of the total area in the province. And Hai'an's cocoon production accounts for one-sixth of the province. 220,000 farmers in the county are benefited from sericulture and silk cocoon manufacturing.

This year, there are 105,000 households engaged in sericulture business in the county with an average family income over 5500 yuan for sericulture only.

Early in the morning of October, Ge Peixiang, a sericulture farmer in Gejia village, happily led his family with over 300 kg of autumn cocoons heading to the town gathering station.

He sold more than 300 kilograms of cocoon and earned another sum close to 10,000 yuan for this year’s revenue. He has already collected more than 16,000 yuan through raising silkworms in spring and summer this year.

In other words, Ge is likely to earn over 26,000 yuan from the 0.32 hectares of his contracted responsible plot this year, 7,000 yuan higher than last year.
