Late rice plant hoppers and other pests break out due to the adverse weather this year. Zhejiang’s farmers continued using chemical pesticide to rice crops during August and early September. The excessive use of chemical pesticide has taken a severe environmental impact. Till pm 6:00 Sept. 4th, it’s reported that over 70,000 boxes of middle silkworm larvae has died after eating mulberry leaves poisoned by chemical pesticide in Jiaixng. According to statistics from local agricultural sector, Jiaxing distributed nearly 300,000 boxes of middle autumn silkworm eggs last week.
The death of silkworm larvae has resulted in a great loss of income for local silkworm farmers. Some of them have to turn to late autumn silkworm rearing.
