Shandong province’s fresh cocoon production this year rose by 7.7% to 39700 tons from last year’s output of 36845 tons. Of the total production, about 48.11% or 19100 tons were harvested in spring with 1480 yuan for averaged purchase price per 50kg; About 13.1% or 5200 tons were harvested in summer with 1300 yuan for averaged price per 50kg; About 38.79% or 15400 tons were harvested in autumn with 1630 yuan for averaged price per 50kg.

Purchase prices hit new high this year. Purchase price for late –autumn fresh cocoons even reached 1750 yuan per 50kg. Sericulture farmers were encouraged to rear more silkworms.
