According to statistics provided by Chongqing Foreign Trade & Economic Relation Commission, during January to November this year, silk product export (excluding silk madeups and chemical-fiber fabric) in the region eased to 38.4486 million US dollars, a 22.5 percent year-on-year decrease. Among this, for silk filament & raw silk, we saw 43.2 percent drop in export volume, 28.1 percent drop in export value while 26.5 percent growth in export price; For gray silk fabric, we saw 31.06 percent drop in export volume, 12.3 percent drop in export value while 27.5 percent surge in export price. The silk product export in November eased to 2-year low of 1.6347 million US dollars, similar to February and March of this year.
A sharp slump in export volume is mainly due to the price inversion- selling cost far below raw silk cost. Producers had no other way but to keep sideline in order to decrease losses.
