China: Silk exports to Japan rise slightly

According to Customs statistics, China's silk merchandise exported to Japan from January to October 2006 reached US $331 million, an increase of 1.33 percent over the same period last year, accounting for 10.64 percent of the market share.

Japan remains China's second largest export market for silk products.

Silk categories:

Silk category exports to Japan were 2515 tons from January to October, a year-on-year decrease of 11.76 percent, with amount of $78.5 million, average price at $31.21 per kg, rising 21.93 percent and 38.19 percent, respectively, from the same period last year.

Silk fabrics:

Silk fabric exports to Japan were 13.23 million meters from January to October, a year-on-year decrease of 11.15 percent. Gray fabric exports took a major share, accounting for 86.11 percent of silk fabric exports. Gray silk fabric exports stood 12.27 million meters, a year-on-year decrease of 14.95 percent, exports amount registered $31.77 million, average price at $2.59 per meter, a year-on-year growth of 8.73 percent and 27.84 percent, respectively.

Silk Garment:

Silk garment exports to Japan were 9.06 million sets from January to October, with amount of $145 million, dropping 5.65 percent and 5.65 percent, respectively, average price at $16.04 per set, a year-on-year increase of 17.07 percent, much higher than the world's average price.
