China:China's silk product export review from Jan. to Nov. 2006

The figures from China Customs showed that the export value of silk products reached 7.892 billion US dollars during Jan. to Nov. 2006, up by 1.49 percent over same period last year. Among this, the export value of natural silk totaled 3.421 billion US dollars, an increase of 0.26 percent from the same period of prior year;The export value of chemical silk which amounted to 4.472 billion US dollars represented an increase of 2.45 per cent over same period last year.
Silk Filament & Raw Silk:
In the past eleven months of 2006, silk filament & Raw Silk export reached 23400 tons, down by 15.17 percent year-on-year. Average unit price and export value both saw a surge compared to same period last year, however, the growth rates slowed down.
The export volume of the type showed some increase in Jan. and March, however, the remaining months experienced a sharp drop in export volume. The export volume in Nov. dropped by 37.89 percent points, which directly led to an overall drop in export volume in the past eleven months of this year.
Silk Fabric:
In the past eleven months of 2006, export of silk fabric was 6.151 billion meters, up by 3.88 per cent year-on-year.
Among these, export of natural silk fabric was 224 million meters, down by 15.16 percent year-on-year. Gray silk fabric export accounted for 68.4 percent of total export amount of natural silk fabric.
Silk Madeups:
The export value of silk madeups was 2.104 billion US dollars, down by 4.54 percent year-on-year, of which silk garment export value dropped by 5.07 percent to 1.659 billion US dollars.
Export markets:
The top eight export markets are the USA, Hongkong, the UAE, India, Japan, Italy, Pakistan and German.
