China sets new target for the cocoon and silk industry in five-year plan

For days China’s cocoon and silk industry and inland mainstream media paid high attention to the eleventh Five-year (2006-2010) Plan outline for China's silk industry released by the Ministry of Commerce, believing it to have worked out a new strategy for Chinese silk industry’s development in the next five years and painted a new development blueprint. The 11th Five-year Plan outline is made according to the requests of the 11th Five-year Plan for national economic and social development.
The plan outline sets some of the new goals.
800,000-900,000 tons for silkworm cocoon output
20 billion RMB Yuan’s annual income for sericulture farmers
170,000-190,000 tons for silkworm silk output
10-20 percent less of water and energy consumption
250 billion Yuan for the annual output value of Chinese silk industry
5-5.5 billion US dollars for annual export value
During the five years, the silk industry will attach great importance to transforming growth way, optimize industry structure, further strengthen macro guidance and control, market supervision, endeavor to promote reinvigorating trade through science and technology and brand strategy, expand international and domestic markets, guide and promote sound and steady development of silk industry.The 11th Five-year plan aims at making China become a strong silk country from a big one.
