Shanghai, September 26 – “I wish you could purchase more Chinese goods,” said Bo Xilai, the Minister of Commerce, at 2007 International Sourcing Fair Shanghai, China.
The fair was kicked off on September 25, 2007, with 260 buyers from both home and abroad taking part in it, including 53 on the Fortune 500 list. The number of suppliers even surpassed 3,500. Besides UN organizations and enterprises from the US, Japan and Germany, many European, Canadian and Mexican enterprises also take part in the fair.
It is estimated that the goods purchased at the sourcing fair might be worth $20 billion, and of 2,000-plus kinds of 10 categories.
Previous sourcing fairs were designed for foreign buyers only, while the fair this year has set up a special zone for 22 local buyers. It is believed that this change will help to suppress China’s export surplus and help it to gain a better development pattern for its foreign trade.
