Zhejiang Silk Association had 2008 Autumn Cocoon Harvest Meeting in Hangzhou on Sept. 16th. Nearly 50 delegates from 30 cocoon operation corporations in the province attended the meeting.

Agricultural statistics shows that predicted mid-autumn silkworm egg distribution amount drops 31 percent compared to same period last year to 437 thousand boxes and late-autumn silkworm egg distribution amount drops 251 percent to 239 thousand boxes. Then the distribution amount of silkworm eggs is expected to be 1.74 million boxes for the whole year of 2008, down 21 percent.

According to statistics from Zhejiang Silk Association, over 60 percent of the province’s silk reeling mills and 50 percent of silk spinning mills suffered losses during the first seven months of this year.

The meeting expressed some pessimistic opinion on the the silk market outlook.

After careful analysis and full discussion , the meeting set the provincial purchase price for fresh autumn cocoon to be 880 yuan per dan(50kg) based on cocoon cost at 170000 yuan.
