Bangalore: The 20th Congress of the International Sericultural Commission is held here for four-days from December 15 to enable sericulture scientists and technocrats from across the globe to exchange ideas on the latest development in the sector.

Briefing mediapersons, Congress Chief Coordinator and Central Silk Board (CSB) Member Secretary H Bhasker said the meet attended by 250 delegates from 18 countries would discuss 200 scientific papers on various aspects of sericulture including host plants, silkworm rearing, pathology breeding, bacology, post cocoon, by products and economy.

This is the second time that Bangalore is hosting the triennial event. The first one was held 20 years ago. The last Congress was held in Bangkok.

Mr Bhasker said the proceedings of the Congress would bring together in a single, free, open, equitable access-resource the collective knowledge and erudition of the international sericulture and silk community. The outcome could be usefully translated into strategic tools for the advancement of sericulture and silk sectors in the participating countries.

To coincide with the Congress, the Board is organising a week long silk exposition called the Silken Splendors-2005. Silk sarees garments and made ups from different regions of the country would be displayed at the show where a separate designers corner would also be there.
