Srinagar: About 1.14 lakh small mulberry trees would be planted during a fortnight-long drive in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir, an official spokesman said here.

The Sericulture Department launched the plantation drive last month with planting of mulberry trees by Kupwara Development Commissioner Abdul Majid Khanday.

There are nine mulberry propagation nurseries in the district and 975 families are engaged in mulberry plantation, the spokesman said.

Meanwhile, Social Forestry Department plans to plant three lakh saplings of different species in Baramulla district during the current plantation season in the district.

The process of plantation of saplings was set in motion at a function yesterday, the spokesman said.
