TEHRAN, May 26 (MNA) – After 10 years of dormancy, silkworm business came out of hibernation by exporting 31 tons of cocoon to the Azerbaijan Republic, Mehdi Purhosseini said here Friday.
“The product sold $8 per kilo enjoys good quality, however, it is yet to compete with uncontrolled imports that have caused price fluctuation,” the chairman of Sericulture Company added.
Some 400-500 tons of imported spun silk glutted the market last year at suspicious price tag of five dollars while the actual invoice suggested $20 per kilo, he regretted.
Iran has exported 1,000 boxes of silkworm eggs to Greece at the rate of $9 per kilo since the current Iranian year (started March 21).
