NEW DELHI, AUG 14: Allaying fears of dumping of Chinese silk into the country, the government on Monday said it has already initiated anti-dumping measures in a bid to protect thousands of silk farmers and weavers.
As part of new measures to revive the industry, the Rajya Sabha later passed the Central Silk Board (amendment) Bill to arm the extended board to take emergency revival measures for the industry.
“We have taken anti-dumping measures against China and the interim order has gone in our favour,” minister of state for textiles EVKS Elangovan informed the Rajya Sabha as members, cutting across party affiliations, called for a ban on import of Chinese silk fabrics, saying it had hit the Indian industry.
