India: Cocoon production on the rise in Kashmir

Srinagar, Sept 8. (UNI): About 52.75 hectares of land has been brought under the mulberry plantation with 1,017 lakh saplings planted during this fiscal in the frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara.
A target of 35,000 kg of cocoon has been fixed for the current financial year, an official spokesman said on Thursday.
Besides, 35,000 kg of cocoon worth Rs 26 lakh has been kept for auction in the market by the growers in the district, he added.
The spokesman said 48 incubation centers were proposed to be installed in the border district.
At present, eight mulberry nurseries were being developed for promotion of sericulture activities, he added.
