India:Rs 50 lakh cocoon warehouse to come up in Islamabad

A modern cocoon ware house costing Rs 50 lakh would be constructed at Berigam in Devsar constituency. The Ware House would provide cocoon storage-cum-auction marketing facilities besides ensuring round the year availability of dried cocoons for the Silk reeling units in the state, an official statement said.
This statement was announced by the Minister for Agriculture and Cooperatives, Abdul Aziz Zargar who along with M. L. A Devsar, Sartaj Madni and Director, Sericulture Muhammad Ashraf Khan today inspected the site for the Ware House in Devsar.
The Minister was informed that the Silk Worm rearing families in Islamabad district has increased to 1350 during the current year against 1150 families last year. The Sericulture department has distributed 1.63 lakh mulberry plants among 1476 beneficiaries of the district during the current year wheareas cocoon production has increased to 60,000 kgs against 45000 kgs last year. The department has also provided CGI sheets worth Rs34.210 lakhs among the silk worm rearers of the district during last 3 years to upgrade and improve their cocoon rearing sheds. The department has also set up a modern Chaki Rearing Centre (CRC) costing Rs 3 lakh at Chowgam village to provide hatched silk worms to the cocoon growers.
