Bangalore: The success of bivoltine silk programme in India has persuaded Central Silk Board (CSB) to promote quality reeling of silk yarn in the country, CSB officials said here on September 08.
CSB is willing to advice entrepreneurs who want to put up reeling facilities, notably in the south as part of its process to promote quality reeling.
The Chinese reeling-machine makers which are identified to receive subsidy on import, installation and operation of these machines are superior as they require less manual intervention, besides ensuring higher output.
Chinese machines can produce around 30 tons annually, compared to the three to four tons of Indian machines as on a two-shift basis, a Chinese machine produces about 70 kg of yarn daily.
CSB is keen to promote Chinese machines due to quality of yarn, as around 60 percent of the yarn produced goes in weaving operations.
However, the cost of importing, installation and operations of three machines is estimated around Rs 3 crore which CSB is in process to purchase on a pilot basis in India.
Another reason to purchase such machines is to bring the prices of Indian yarn same to that of Chinese yarn.
