Resolution of the President of Uzbekistan "On measures to further reform silk industry of the Republic of Uzbekistan" dated 15 November 2006 has approved some proposals on development of silkworm breeding.
The recommendations were made by the Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources and Uzbekyengilsanoat (Uzbek light industry) state joint-stock company.
The document provided silk producing enterprises with some privileges as well. Thus, grain plants starting from the harvest of 2006 until 1 January 2010 have been exempted from the payment of value added tax (VAT) when selling self-produced grain to cocoons producing farms under direct contracts and through cocoons procuring organizations. Enterprises engaged in procuring and primary processing of cocoons have been exempted from VAT when selling dry cocoons to processing enterprises of the Uzbek silk industry.
Raw materials, dyestuff, chemicals and accessory materials, not produced in Uzbekistan, and imported by the silk industry companies of Uzbekyengilsanoat for own production needs, have been exempted from customs payment (except for customs legalization duties) until 1 January 2008.
