India:CSB received two proposals to promote eri-silkworm rearing

NEW DELHI: The Central Silk Board (CSB) for the promotion of Eri-silkworm rearing as sustainable occupation in Karnataka has received two proposals from 慣he Bridge Foundation (TBF)?and 慘arnataka Sustainable Agriculture & Rural Development Society (KSARDS)? industry sources said here on December 12.

The proposal was forwarded by government of Karnataka.

While on the other hand, government of India has informed that they have not received any proposal from the government of Karnataka regarding the process of development and optimization for production of Silk blended yarns and fabrics.

The TBF has submitted one more project called Promotion of Ericulture in Karnataka for the districts of Davanagere, Shimoga and Hassan during June, 2006 which is under consideration by the Central Silk Board.

During January 2007, CSB will be convening a meeting of the Project Approval Committee (PAC) to scrutinize and consider the projects submitted by the NGOs.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Textiles Shri E.V.K.S. Elangovan in a written reply in Lok Sabha today.
