According to statistics from the Ministry of Finance of Japan, the trade value of silk products in December was 142 million US dollars, increasing 12.08% from the previous month and decreasing 14.74% from the same period last year. Among them, the import value was 124 million US dollars, increasing 11.45% month-on-month and decreasing 16.08% year-on-year; the export value was 17.9091 million US dollars, with a rise of 16.64% on a monthly basis and a decline of 4.15% from the year earlier. The specific product composition was as follows:
Import: The amount of silk filament was 3.1094 million US dollars, up by 9.37% month-on-month and down by 44.54% YOY, with whose quantity going up 6.34% from the previous month to 68.61 tons and going down 34.63% from the year earlier; the amount of silk fabrics was 7.6519 million US dollars, down by 21.52% and 21.9% from the previous month and year respectively; The amount of silk madeups was 113 million US dollars, rising 14.76% from the previous month and falling 14.45% YOY.
Export: The amount of silk filament was 189.5 thousand US dollars, a decrease of 17.58% month-on-month and a decline of 18.18% YOY, with whose quantity falling 19.21% month-on-month to 2.04 tons and plunging 66.89% YOY; the amount of silk fabrics was 16.3561 million US dollars, increasing 17.44% and declining 1.88% from the previous month and year respectively; The amount of silk madeups was 1.3635 million US dollars, a month-on-month increase of 13.92% and a decrease of 23.57% YOY.
2. Silk products trade from January to December
From January to December, the trade value of Japanese silk was 1779 million US dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 15.64%. Among them, the import value was 1608 million US dollars, down 15.81% YOY; the export value was 171 million US dollars,
down 13.99% YOY(the same below). Details were as follows:
The composition of imported products amounted to 44.5281 million US dollars of silk filament, falling 40.17%, with whose quantity dropping 36.29% to 900.81 tons; silk fabrics amounted to 118 million US dollars, with a drop of 2.88%; Silk madeups amounted to 1445 million US dollars, declining 15.67%.
The major sources of imports were China (768 million US dollars, down 17.46% , accounting for 47.76%), Vietnam (336 million US dollars, down 20.36%, accounting for 20.88%), Italy (105 million US dollars, down 15.96%, accounting for 6.53%), Indonesia (82.9905 million US dollars, down 0.5%, accounting for 5.16%), Cambodia (79.9799 million US dollars, up 44.99%, accounting for 4.98%). The total proportion of the 5 sources above was 85.31%.
The composition of export products amounted to 3.0541 million US dollars of silk filament, a year-on-year decrease of 6.23%, with whose quantity falling 7.85% to 35.7 tons; silk fabrics amounted to 149 million US dollars, down 16.54%; and silk madeups were 18.979 million US dollars, an increase of 11.24%.
The major export markets were China (70.6319 million US dollars, down 6.33%, accounting for 41.22%), Vietnam (57.1528 million US dollars, down 20.68%, accounting for 33.35%), Thailand (5.6624 million US dollars, down 23.4%, accounting for 3.3%), Hong Kong (5.4774 million US dollars, down 18.22%, accounting for 3.2%), Taiwan (4.9376 million US dollars, down 12.41%, accounting for 2.88%). The five markets above accounted for 83.95% of the total.
