China’s Silk Products Import and Export Situation in Jan.-Jun. 2021

1. The import and export situation of silk products in June    

According to China Customs statistics, the total import and export value of silk products was 154 million US dollars of China, a year-on-year increase of 59.79%. Among them, the export value was 111 million dollars, increasing 17.66% and 61.15% from the previous month and year respectively; the import value was 42.8135 million dollars, growing 31.01% and 56.37% from the previous month and year respectively. The specific details are as follows:

Export situation: the amount of silk filament was 25.065 million dollars, jumping  99.96% from the last year (the same below), and the quantity of which was 531.78 tons, growing 80.73%; the amount of silk fabrics was 28.2575 million dollars, going up 90.80%; the silk madeups was 57.4356 million dollars, rising 38.79%.

Import situation: the amount of silk filament was 6.0205 million dollars, soaring  235%, and the quantity of which was 563.46 tons, growing 62.04%; the amount of silk fabrics was 1.6469 million dollars, going down 4.78%; the silk madeups was 35.1461 million dollars, rising 47.35%.

2. The import and export situation of silk products in Jan.-Jun.

The total import and export value of silk products was 798 million dollars from January to June, up 21.8%, accounting for 0.51% of China's total textile and apparel imports and exports.

2.1 Export situation

The export value of pure silk products was 587 million US dollars from January to June, a year-on-year increase of 6.25%, accounting for 0.41% of China's textile and apparel exports. During the same period, the export value of textile and apparel increased by 12.79% .

1.1Export products structure

From January to June, the export growth rate of silk madeups continued to expand, and the export of silk fabrics turned from decline to rise. Among them, silk filament was 129 million dollars, falling 13.6%, accounting for 21.96%, and the quantity of

which was 2957.29 tons, dropping 5.44%, with its export unit price of 43.60 dollars per kilo, down 8.63%; silk fabrics amounted to 153 million dollars, growing 9.24%, accounting for 26.10%, and its export unit price was 5.42 dollars per meter, jumping 2.07%; the exports of silk madeups totaled 305 million dollars, going up 15.92%, accounting for 51.94%.

1.2 Major export markets

The decline of silk product exports to major markets narrowed over last year. The export growth to America extended. And the UK exceeded India to be fifth of the export markets. The top five markets were: EU (down 1.47%, accounting for 26.60%), USA (up 11.26%, accounting for 19.60%), Hong Kong (up 22.75%, accounting for 8.69%), Japan (up 9.64%, accounting for 8.23%), the UK (up 71.36%, accounting for 4.82%).

1) Export situation of Silk filament

The exports of silk filament to UN and Japan turned from decline to rise. And Vietnam rose to be the forth of the export markets. The top five rankings were: EU (up 1.0%, accounting for 40.47%), India (down 48.98%, accounting for 14.33%), Japan (up 2.04%, accounting for 14.08%), Vietnam (down 27.55%, accounting for 4.68%), Madagascar (down 35.83%, accounting for 4.24%).

2) Export situation of Silk fabrics

The decline of silk fabrics exported to EU significantly narrowed, and the growth of which to Hongkong extended, rising to be the second in export market rankings. The top five countries or regions were: EU (down 11.48%, accounting for 23.74%), Hong Kong (up 48.73%, accounting for 14.43%), Pakistan (up 107.95%, accounting for 113.07%), Sri Lanka (up 15.65%, accounting for 5.97%), India (down 23.01%, accounting for 5.65%).

3)Export situation of silk madeups

From January to June, the growth of silk product exports to America extended. The exports to EU turned from decline to rise, and the exports kept rapid growth to UK. The top five countries or regions were: USA (up 10.77%, accounting for 35.22%), EU (up 2.84%, accounting for 22.18%), Hong Kong (up 8.56%, accounting for 9.11%), the UK (up 78.57%, accounting for 8.01%), Japan (up 18.86%, accounting for 7.87%).

1.3 Export situation of provinces and municipalities

The rankings of major export provinces and municipalities of silk products remained unchanged. The export growth of Guangdong Province and Shandong Province continued to extend. Zhejiang Province turned from decline to rise. The rankings of major provinces and municipalities were: Zhejiang (up 0.32%, accounting for 35.35%), Jiangsu (up 10.93% , accounting for 17.41%), Guangdong (down 7.17%, accounting for 10.44%), Shanghai (down 12.23%, accounting for 8.24%), Shandong (up 33.70%, accounting for 8.20%). The total exports of the top 5 provinces and municipalities accounted for 79.64% of the country's total exports.

2.Import situation

From January to June, the import value of pure silk products was 211 million US dollars, an increase of 105.39%, accounting for 1.54% of textile and apparel imports. In the same period, textile and apparel imports jumped 25.63% .

2.1 Import structure

The proportion of imports of the three major categories was basically stable, and imports of silk filament and silk madeups continued to maintain substantial growth. The import value of silk filament was 28.153 million dollars, soaring 172.49%, accounting for 13.34%, the quantity of which amounted to 31.5686 tons, growing 58.96%, and the unit price of which jumped by 71.54% to 8.92 dollars per kilo; the imports of pure silk fabrics was 9.4503 million dollars, increasing 3.71%, accounting for 4.48%, and its unit price fell 6.10% to 12.78 dollars per meter; Imports of silk madeups increased 108.18% to 174 million dollars, accounting for 82.19%.

2.2 Import situation of sources

Imports from the EU have maintained substantial growth and the ranking was stable.The top five import sources of pure silk products were: EU (up 117.10%, accounting for 76.11%), India (up 113.58%, accounting for 5.46%), China (up 20.43%, accounting for 5.38% ), Uzbekistan (up 310.99%, accounting for 4.69%), Vietnam (up 74.70%, accounting for 1.31%).    

2.3 Export situation of provinces and municipalities

The major provinces and municipalities of China's silk imports showed an increase year-on-year, and Anhui Province rose to fifth place. The details were as follows: Shanghai (up 106.44%, accounting for 76.34%), Zhejiang (up 257.92%, accounting for 8.52%), Guangdong (up 35.72%, accounting for 4.32%), Beijing (up 17.67%, accounting for 2%), Anhui (up 184.65%, accounting for 1.77%). The top five provinces and municipalities accounted for 92.95% of the country's total imports.
