It is a great pleasure to talk to you and congratulate ABRASEDA for the first International Congress virtually held from Londrina, Parana.
I want to tell you that Sericulture is a very important activity, which puts many small producers on the production route, which brings income, and social inclusion.
So Iwant to congratulate you and I wish you many success,at the congress, and also at the workshops that will be held for more than four thousand small farmers that are grouped in several silk chains.
A big hug to all of you!
Brazil is a great exporter, it is the sixth largest exporter of silk yarms, with great quality,
AndI want to tell you that the Ministry of Agriculture supports this activity,so count on us!
A big hug to everyone! success!
I am Renata Amano
President of Abraseda, Brazilian Silk Association
The lntemational Abraseda Congress is the common thread that maintains the legacy of our endless stories
And I would like to thank each of you for your participation in this wonderful journey that we have travel together
Silk essentially preserves transparency
The balance
Respect for people
By nature and processes
The unfolding of silk in Brazil testifies to the sustainability in each of its interactions since its beginning
And there are more than 80 years of history that are consolidated in this meeting
Silk is a precious jewel, a polished diamond
Silk is luxury
But what is luxury? Glamor?
Well, yes. But that is not the luxury we are going to talk about today
Thanks to Bratac, sericulture in Brazil happens fairly to everyone, in harmony, each person playing their role
A luxury accessible to all
A new luxury
The new luxury is to be sustainable
This is what our Brazilian silk represents
Everything we've built so far and will be leaving for our children
For our grandchildren
And future generations
But for this I need your cooperation
Abraseda signed the global pact with the United Nations
A strategy for achieving the SDGs by the year of 2030
Less than 10 years until that day arrives
We are now living in the decade of action
Action to transform this world
Being part of the Brazilian network of the global pact means that we can direct the path towards a better future
And I want to invite you to be a protagonist right now
It's very simple, first, you need to agree
To respect and protect human rights
Fight forced labor and child labor
To fight all kinds of discrimination
And to eliminate corruption and protect the environment
And then, just keep on demanding silk
Silk is people
The value of silk is in the dedication of so many individuals in our production chain
It is respect for people and nature
It's being able to make choices and reinvent yourself as the silkworm transforms
The silk is circular
An economic model in which production
And conscious consumption weave
An eco-system of continuous processes that generate long-term resources
Generates opportunities for new implementations every day
In tourism
In fashion
In the arts
In the food industry
In the cosmetic line
Pharmaceuticals and medicine
Today's event
It arises from the need to break paradigms and move towards a healthy relationship that ensures economic development
Improving living and employment conditions
And the regeneration of natural resources
We want to show that it is possible
And I believe that together we will be successful
This first international Abraseda congress was designed with great care especially for you
I hope you'll enjoy it
Have fun!
Hi everybody!
I'm really pleased and honored to open the Congrexs of Abraseda
I'm Xavier Lepingle the general manager of Hames Textile Holding
And as you have seen behind me
We are currently modifying our facilities and expanding our silk production
And you know,we are the biggest consumers of silk you are producing in Brazil
Many years ago, we started the story between the Bratac and Hermes families
And it's very important in the long-term relationship that we continue to develop sericulture in Brazil
I am here today to ensure each of you that producing high quality silk in Brazil is good for all of us
So I invite you to continue to promote qualitative production
And I hope that with my participation in this congress
We can motivate new rural producers to enter the Sericulture, new friends to unite our families and produce together this wonderful silk that you already make in Brazil today
Take care, have a nice congress
And see you soon!
My name is Junior
I am the CEO of Bratac
2020 was a year marked by many challenges and triumphs
The experience accumulated over the years was essential for us to survive this difficult year
it was necessary to postpone plans
Delay projects indefinitely and dealing with the uncertainties that semed to grow every day
Now we need to make up for lost time, producing much more and better to meet the demands we have today from customers who are already pushing us to provide more high-quality silk yarn
Bratac completed 80 years of continuous activity always producing a single product
Resisting all setbacks and becoming the only silk producer on an industrial scale in the Westerm Hemisphere
Our quest for better quality is a source of great pride
Always leaning on ethics, respect for employee and a strong partnership with sericulture farmers
None of this would be possible if it weren't for the understanding and dedication of our employees and sericulture farmers, to whom I am very grateful!
For decades, sericulture has stood out as one of the most connected activities in its entire production chain
Ending with the sale of the silk yarn with the participation of farmers and industries
Competent bodies at the municipal, State and Federal Levels
Financial institutions and universities
Of course we had problems with the weather and especially with pesticide drift which, especially in this harvest, caused a lot of damage
Both to the sericulture producer and the industry
Because I emphasize that for 7 kilograms of cocoon that is not produced
One kilogram of silk thread is no longer marketed
In the 2020-2021 harvest, the production estimate is 2.138 tons of green cocoons
In other words, 520 tons and 20% less than in the previous harvest
Emphasizing that the number of distributed larvae boxes was reduced by 10%
In addition, the reference price of the 15% theoliquid green cocoon increased 6%
While the gencral price average only 3%
These factors clearly demonstrate that profitability and quality have suffered significant impacts
But if in 2020 we produce very little yarn and we increase the stock of cocoons
For the next few years we will need much more of our main raw material, the silkwom cocoons
So Im counting on everyone's collaboration to get more quantity, more quality and therefore greater profit
During this event today, you sericulture farmer will have access to a new subsidized credit line. training in new technologies and encouragement to practice the best techniques of soil and silkworm management.
Enjoy!
Thank you very Much!
Good moming!
We are very pleased to welcome you today at Les Tissages Perrin
And we are very pleased to take part at the congress
We are French weavers and specialized in silk
And we are mostly operating for famous French luxury brands
Because our customers value quality and regularity
We've been using Brazilian silk for more than 30 years now
And our partnership with our dear Bratac Bratac
Enables us to reach now a very high degree of confidence in the raw material
We transform into very desirable fabric
Silk and cocoons are not always easy to deal with
Of course we know that
But thanks to well managed organizations and techniques
And required knowledge, of course
We've made major improvements in the last year
Silk requires hard work but its one of the most prestigious and fascinating materials we can think of
We thank you for your involvement, your commitment
And of course we wish you a very successful congress
Thanks!
I'm Romulo Penna Scorza Junior.I am a researcher here at Embrapa West Farming in the municipality of Dourados, State of Mato Grosso do Sul.
This project started due to the demand for institutions by Embrapa to try and resolve an issue which has affected sericulture farmers
This matter is related to the drift of aerial pesticide spraying
That has been affecting sericulture farmers
Pesticides when sprayed, they can be transported offtarget
What we call drift and this drift due to,for example, the action of the wind
Or due to inappropriate use of some technologies during spraying
These pesticides can be deposited for example in the mulberry trees that are used to feed the silkworm
And these deposition of these pesticide residues in mulberry trees may cause silkworm poisoning leading to mortality
So the project started right there
We are trying to diagnose this problerm
So we in this project, first, we collect mulberry leaves and bring them to the lab
And we do the analysis to detect and identify the presence of residues of this pesticide in mulbery leaves
Here are the sheets after they are brought to the lab
We freeze these leaves and start the extraction process
During the analysis we've had some results
We've already had a lot of results actually
So many samples here from Mato Grosso do Sul, in a sericulture area and also from other states
We have been observing presence of residues of some pesticides that are connected, which are correlated with those that have been sprayed in areas adjacent to sericulture
We have found residues of these pesticides
Quantities are low but enough to cause intoxication and death in silkworms
The project so far it is limited only to the diagnosis, right
So we have done this diagnosis and have prepared a report based on the results and forwarded it to the authorities that requested these analyses from us
So after you've done that, here in Mato Grosso do Sul we have a committee of conflict resolution that they have been calling
So the committee can vote in favor of the indemnification of the sericulture farmers in view of the results that were reported in relation to the presence of pesticide residues on the leaves and the sprays that were carried out in the area
When Embrapa received this demand from state agency partners, inspection bodies, it welcomed them with pleasure
Because Embrapa really wants to contribute to solving the problem, you know
Then immediately put all its technical staff all its structure to try to solve your problem
Of course, Embrapa wants to contribute and has been contributing with the diagnosis of the problem
Because it truly wants to, and beyond the diagnosis
It wants to put its entire team, and make all of its technologies available
So Embrapa is very happy to contribute together with all the partners involved Embrapa
In trying and solving this problem.
Hello, my name is Renata da Rosa
I'm a professor at the State University of Londrina
And coordinator of the molecular entomology research group there. I'm going to tell you about a projct for
neutralization of agricultural pesticides being developed at the University
Agricultural pesticides are chemical molecules which are used to control
different pests in agricultural crops
from soybean crops to wheat corn, among others
These pesticides are of various types
There are herbicides, insecticides and fungicides
And pesticides control such pests and can be applied in different ways in plantations
Either by land spraying with a tractor or aerial spraying using an airplane.
So,the problem is that when the weather conditions, for example, wind, rain or other climate factors can take these chemical molecules to the sericulture farmers' plantation. Even the mulberry plantation.
And then, when these molecules fall into the mulberry tree, it can be in very small amount. they will harm the creation of the silkworm.
Because the silkworm is an insect.
If silkworm gets in contact with some insecticide,
consequenty, it will die.
So, silkworm is a very sensitive animal and anytype of molecule harms his development.
And then, when talking about mulberry leaf, even if it is a very small amount of pesticide, and such mulberry is offered to the silkworm, this animal will eat this leaf with the pesticide.
Then, the toxic molecule can paralyze the animal
It can also let it die
Otherwise, the pesticide may prevent the silkworm from making the seedlings and prevent it to move into the following ages.
And consequently, this animal will die
That is a huge problem within sericulture activity that has been observed.
And also an issue to BRATAC silk reeling. So,we were talking to Bratac specialists and developing a solution based on their request.
We jointly decided to start researches aimed at some pesticide ncutralizing molecule.
And then with Bratace expertise together with our research group,
we then developed 2 lines of research that are investigating possible molecules that can be used as neutralizers.
We have a battle front that is working where we are working with bacteria.
Microorganisms that are able to take this pesticide, metabolize it to transform it into a molecule that is not lethal to the silkworm.
Then another perspective will be using some compounds,
even chemical and natural compounds, which have the ability to either absorb or remove such pesticide from the mulberry leaves.
If we are able to neutralize molecules of pesticides deposited in mulberry leaves by drift
such leaves can be offered to the silkworm with no negative impact.
It is very important research.
It is a problem brought by the company BRATAC that the university can then help the community. We can really help sericulture farmers.
Our goal is to search for composite
or a microorganism that neutralizes these pesticides'compounds
so that sericulture farmers do not lose their crops.for you not to lose your cocoon production.
And consequently, we have an increase in cocoon production,
a continuity in Brazilian cocoon production.
And may this be beneficial for all sericulture farmers in Paran and in Brazil.
And consequently, for Bratac to continue producing quality silk for the whole world!
