China’s Silk Product Imports in Jan.-Feb. 2022

From January to February, the import value of pure silk products was 64.0319 million US dollars, an increase of 12.41%, accounting for 1.7% of textile and apparel imports which fell 8.7% in the same period.

1. The structure of import products

The three categories of silk imports increased by different margins, with the proportion of silk filament declining and silk madeups rising. Silk filament imported of 10.2071 million US dollars, an increase of 24.69% year-on-year, accounting for 15.94%, with the import quantity of 1227.97 tons, an increase of 10.08% year-on-year, import unit price of 8.31 US dollars / kg, an increase of 13.22%; silk fabrics imported of 2.6131 million US dollars, an increase of 17.90%, accounting for 4.08%, with import unit price of 12.52 US dollars / meter, down 7.60% year-on-year; silk madeups imported of 51.2117 million US dollars, an increase of 9.99% year-on-year, accounting for 79.98%.

2. Import Sources

China's imports from the European Union continued to decline, imports from Japan increased significantly, and Japan surpassed Uzbekistan in the fifth place in terms of import sources. The top five sources were: the European Union (up 11.88%, accounting for 75.45%), North Korea (--%, accounting for 9.32%), China (up 19.97%, accounting for 5.01%), India (down 16.58%, accounting for 4.36%), Japan (up 86.99%, accounting for 1.30%).


3. Import situation of provinces and municipalities

Among the major provinces and municipalities of silk imports, Liaoning still ranked second due to the large import value in January, and Anhui rises to fifth. The details were as follows: Shanghai (up 14.69%, accounting for 75.18%), Liaoning (up 35706.66%, accounting for 8.85%), Zhejiang (down 50.57%, accounting for 4.71%), Guangdong (down 25.56%, accounting for 2.35%), Anhui (down 0.89%, accounting for 1.90%). The total imports of the top 5 provinces and municipalities accounted for 92.99% of the total national imports.
