China’s Silk Product Imports and Exports in Jan.-Jul. 2022

1. The import and export situation of silk products in July    
According to China Customs statistics, the total import and export value of silk products was 201 million US dollars (the same below) of China, a year-on-year increase of 53.05%. Among them, the export value was 164 million dollars, dropping 2.96% and growing 64.71% from the previous month and year respectively; the import value was 37 million dollars, rising 2.78% and 16.62% from the previous month and year respectively. The specific details were as follows:
Export situation: the amount of silk filament was 47.0835 million dollars, surging  179.13% from the last year (the same below), and the quantity of which was 858.64 tons, rising 124.15%; the amount of silk fabrics was 40.2423 million dollars, rising 52.11%; the silk madeups amounted to 76.3039 million dollars, rising 36.20%。
Import situation: the amount of silk filament was 4.8864 million dollars, jumping  8.67%, and the quantity of which was 556.8 tons, growing 24.54%; the amount of silk fabrics was 0.8778 million dollars, dropping 34.07%; the silk madeups amounted to 31.295 million dollars, jumping 20.60%。
2. The import and export situation of silk products in Jan.-Jul.
From January to July, the total import and export value of silk products was 1220 million dollars, up 31.33%, accounting for 0.59% of China’s total textile and apparel imports and exports.
2.1Export situation
The export value of pure silk products was 1003 million US dollars , a year-on-year increase of 46.07%, accounting for 0.52% of China's textile and apparel exports. During the same period, the export value of textile and apparel increased by 13.12%.
2.1.1Export products structure
From January to July 2022, the proportion of silk exports in the three categories was basically stable, maintaining an upward trend year-on-year, and silk filament still had the largest increase in silk exports. In this period, the export value of silk filament was 291 million dollars, soaring 99.61%, accounting for 29.02%, and the quantity of which was 53.6749 tons, growing 61.75%, with export unit price of 54.22 dollars/kilo, up 23.42%; silk fabrics amounted to 283 million dollars, growing 57.59%, accounting for 28.24%, with export unit price of 5.99 dollars/meter, up 10.31%; the exports of silk madeups totaled 428 million dollars, growing 18.71%, accounting for 42.73%.
2.1.2Major export markets
Most of the export silk products showed different increase to major export markets. Among them, Exports to the Indian and Vietnamese markets continued to grow sharply, and only Hongkong, China market showed a decrease. The top five export markets were the EU (up 54.60%, accounting for 28.29%), the US (up 22.15%, accounting for 16.24%), India (up 269.28%, accounting for 11.67%), Japan (up 16.61%, accounting for 6.43%), Hong Kong, China (down 10.74%, accounting for 5.74%).
1)Export situation of silk filament
India narrowly outperformed the EU to rank first in the export markets for silk products, and among the top ten major markets, exports to Southeast Asian countries generally showed triple-digit gains. The top five export markets were India (up 346.52%, accounting for 32.18%), the EU (up 58.23%, accounting for 31.83%), Japan (up 42.35%, accounting for 10.23%), Vietnam (up 303.26%, accounting for 9.11%), Pakistan (up 71.26%, accounting for 2.73%).
2)Export situation of Silk fabrics
Exports of silk fabrics to major markets generally increased. Among them, exports to the EU continued to expand, and South Korea surpassed Afghanistan ranking fifth. The top five export markets were the EU (up 105.16%, accounting for 30.29%), Pakistan (up 70.76%, accounting for 13.24%), India (up 117.22%, accounting for 8.12%), Sri Lanka (up 87.45%, accounting for 6.69%), South Korea (up 42.37%, accounting for 5.24%).
3)Export situation of silk madeups
The main export markets of silk madeups were stable. Exports to Japan and the UK continued to maintain a downward trend, and the growth rate of exports to the European and American markets expanded.
2.1.3Export situation of provinces and municipalities
There is no obvious change in the ranking and proportion of the main export provinces and municipalities of silk products, which were all showing an upward trend year-on-year. The top five in order were Zhejiang (up 57.29%, accounting for 38%), Jiangsu (up 53.57%, accounting for 18.15%), Guangdong (up 48.60%, accounting for 11.10%), Shandong (up 31.73%, accounting for 7.37%), Shanghai (up 30.98%, accounting for 7.31%). The five provinces and municipalities above accounted for 81.93% of the total.
2.2 Import situation
From January to July, the import value of silk products was 218 million dollars, down 10.34% year-on-year, accounting for 1.59% of textiles and apparel. In the same period, the import value of textiles and apparel fell by 14.88%.
2.2.1Import structure
The three major categories of silk imports continued the downward trend, of which the decline in silk fabrics was still the largest. The import value of silk filament was 31.3615 million dollars, dropping 3.97%, accounting for 14.40%, the quantity of which amounted to 3121.88 tons, dropping 13.41%, and the unit price of which jumped by 10.93% to 10.05 dollars/kilo; the import of pure silk fabrics was 8.56 million dollars, decreasing 20.19%, accounting for 3.95%, and the unit price of which jumped 19.14% to 14.94 dollars/meter; imports of silk madeups fell 10.85% to 178 million dollars, accounting for 81.65%.
2.2.2 Import situation of sources
The proportion of silk product imports from the EU was basically stable that the decline narrowed significantly compared with last month, and the proportion of imports from North Korea continued to increase. The top five import sources in order were the EU (down 11.52%, accounting for 74.60%), China (down 21.85%, accounting for 4.99%), India (down 25.84%, accounting for 4.79%), North Korea (--%, accounting for 3.74%), Myanmar (up 18107.68%, accounting for 2.42%).
2.2.3Import situation of provinces and municipalities
The ranking of the main provinces and municipalities of silk imports changed frequently. From January to July, Guangdong Province and Liaoning Province exchanged positions again, and Guangdong rose to the third place. The details were as follows: Shanghai (down 11.26%, accounting for 75.59%), Zhejiang (down 43.51%, accounting for 5.33%), Guangdong (down 34.93%, accounting for 3.10%), Liaoning (up 1273.67%, accounting for 2.92%), Yunnan (up 24706.62%, accounting for 2.41%). The five provinces and municipalities above accounted for 89.35% of the total.
