The producer price index (PPI) for local production declined by 3.7 percent in the second quarter of 2025, as compared to a 0.3 percent decrease in the first quarter of 2025, official data showed Monday.
The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement on Monday that the mining sector significantly declined by 13.7 percent, followed by manufacturing (-3.4 percent) and electricity and gas supply (-0.6 percent) sectors.
However, agriculture, forestry and fishing, and water supply increased by 1.4 percent and 0.2 percent, respectively.
Meanwhile, on a quarter-on-quarter basis, the PPI registered a decline of 2.3 percent, in contrast to a 1 percent increase recorded in the previous quarter.
This decrease was primarily driven by contractions in agriculture, forestry and fishing, as well as mining and manufacturing sectors.
